An Egg a Day: Drawings by Phil Burns. At a party at the Connecticut estate of Alice De Lamar in the early 1950’s, Phil Burns met Russian surrealist artist Pavel Tchelitchew. The master artist told the young Burns to draw an egg every day. Decades later, suffering from chronic back pain, Phil remembered that advice, and from 1995-2008 he drew over 3,400 variations on the egg. See 357 of these detailed, whimsical and often extraordinary drawings on exhibit in the Gallery at Main of the Richland County Public Library, 1431 Assembly Street, Columbia, South Carolina, December 1, 2011 – March 4, 2012.
